Hello information world. This is a blog I wanted to start in response to the unoriginality in modern video gaming that has not only plagued the major development companies but also independent developers. Trends have become the #1 focus in order to get the quick buck, but what’s really important when dealing with an interactive work of art; the money, or doing something fresh and inspiring? Unfortunately in America, we all know what is favored. So, I’m taking the time to express not only my own opinions on what makes a “good” game, but also some ideas of my own and designs I’ll eventually be working on.
Currently, I’m still in college and am in the stages of working on small projects with friends that are skilled in animation, writing, programming, and music. I’m more on the story and art side, though I want to get into the more technical aspects in video gaming. For now, since I play many games during my free time, I’ll like to share my experiences from them (from the NES to the current generation) and some of my fondest moments (from music, cut-scenes, boss fights, etc) of my gaming past. Remember, this blog is in a very early stage, so this page and the content itself is subject to change as I’d like to see which direction this blog will go towards.
Aesthetics, exciting/impacting music, characters (with actual emotion!), captivating gameplay and unique storylines all have the ability to make up a well developed project, and often a game can be stripped down to a minimal masterpiece and still work even without a story. I will get deeper into these subjects as I write into this, which will help me focus on what I’d like to do for my own projects. The future of gaming is very important to me, as I would like to see as much progression within them as I would like to see in contemporary art and film.

I think that “characters (with actual emotion!)” is really the only one you mentioned that is missing in most games. It is a shame, but from what I’ve seen of recently released titles (Portal 2, The Witcher), the future of games and interactive character development is looking bright.
